Michael Thomas

Saxophonist  •  Composer  •  Educator

Michael Thomas has been active as an educator for more than ten years. He is currently a faculty member at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, teaching applied saxophone and ensemble in the Jackie McLean Jazz Studies Institute. Michael has also taught at summer camps for Juilliard Jazz (San Jose, CA; Snow College in Ephraim, UT, and Trinity College in Melbourne, AUS), as well as currently being on faculty for New England Conservatory's annual Jazz Lab. Michael teaches throughout the school year at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ, as a faculty member for the Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens program. Additionally, he has served as a guest clinician at high schools and colleges throughout the United States, offering workshops in improvisation, composition and arranging, ensemble playing, and saxophone technique.

Michael is available for in-person private lessons (NYC area only) or online for students worldwide. Topics include saxophone, flute, clarinet, improvisation, theory, ear training, composition, and arranging.
